Possible Reasons Your Car Won’t Start

20 December 2022

There’s nothing more inconvenient than needing to be somewhere only to find that your car won’t start. There are a number of issues that could be causing your car to not start, and having a general idea of what these issues might be can help you determine what needs to be fixed. Here are a few common causes and clues that may help you determine what is wrong with your car.

Dead battery

If your car won’t start, one of the most common culprits is a dead battery. Signs that your battery might be dead include dim headlights, clicking noises when you turn the key, or a clicking noise that stops when you press the gas.

Worn or Faulty Spark Plugs

Spark plugs provide the spark that is necessary to ignite the fuel and air mixture in the engine. If the spark plugs are worn or faulty, the car will not start.

Faulty Starter motor

The starter motor, as its name suggests, is responsible for starting the engine. If the starter motor is faulty, the car won’t start. This can be tested by listening for a clicking noise when you turn the key.

Fuel System Issues

If your car won’t start, the fuel system could be the issue. This could include a clogged fuel filter, a faulty fuel pump, or even a fuel tank that is empty. If it sounds like the engine is turning over but not starting, the fuel system issues could be the cause.
